Investments in Romania decreased 29% y/y, according to a report by the National Statistics Institute. According to the quoted source, the trend continued in the first half of 2009 and investments in Romania"s economy shrunk 16.7%, compared to H1 2008.
In the second quarter of 2009, investments in Romania"s economy evolved as follows: investments in spending increased 5.7%, investments in new buildings decreased 9.2%, and investments in equipment (including means of transport) decreased 52.7%.
INS also uncovered a decrease of investments in equipment (including transportation means) compared to the total investment volume, by 14.1 percentage points. The report also shows that the weight of investments in new construction works increased 10.6%, and the weight of investments in spending increased by 3.5%.
On a different note, in the first quarter of the current semester, investments in new construction works amounted to 14033.3 milioane lei (or 51.9 % of the total, compared to 46.2 % of the total in H1 2008).
Investments in machinery and equipment amounted to 10694.3 million lei (39.5 % of the total, compared to 47.7 % of what it was in the first semester of 2008), down 33.5% compared to H1 2008.
