Lafarge yesterday commissioned two new pieces of equipment at their plant in Hoghiz, Brasov County, following an investment in excess of 6.5 million EUR. The project started two years ago and involved some 200 specialists.
The kiln dedusting system, worth 4 million EUR, attenuates the environmental impact to less than 10 mg/Nm3, which is five times below current environmental standards. Thus, Lafarge has employed the newest filtration system based on fiber glass bags.
The solid waste shredding and injection system, worth 1.5 million EUR, is the largest and most modern installation of this kind in Romania and is used to prepare sorted industrial and municipal waste for co-incineration in the cement kiln.
Philippe Questiaux, the CEO of Lafarge Ciment Romania SA, pointed out that the company had invested some 50 million EUR in the past ten years to improve environmental performance. The plans for 2007-2012 are to double this investment.
