Local authorities of the city of Galaţi have identified the main goals that projects submitted as part of the Integrated Urban Development Plan should focus on. Galaţi is one of the cities designated as an urban development pole, and therefore, like Brăila, has received EUR 18.6 million. Nicoleta Manole, the spokesperson of the Mayoralty of Galaţi, said: "In order to access European grants, allocated by means of the Priority Axis 1.1 of the Regional Operational Program, the Coordinating Council of the Mayoralty of Galaţi completed and approved the first stage of the Integrated Urban Development Plan, the Socio-Economic Analysis. According to the former, the main avenues for development that the Integrated Development Plan will focus on, are the improvement of the social aid infrastructure for the elderly, the modernization of streets and streetcar tracks, and the improvement of traffic management of environmental standards".
He said that on top of this, the projects deal with the rehabilitation and the expansion of the sewer, water, public lighting and heating grids, the creation of a ramp for transferring waste and of a waste management plant, the rehabilitation of parks and the creation of new ones and the creation of a new recreational area on the bank of the Danube. Other priorities include the rehabilitation of the buildings which are part of the cultural heritage, rehabilitation of schools and hospitals, supporting cross-border economic activities and the implementation of professional reconversion programs for the unemployed.
