"Metrorex" will allocate 36.61 million lei for feasibility and preliminary feasibility studies for the Fourth Subway trunk line between Gara de Nord-Progresul, according to an announcement made by the company, quoted by Agerpres. The awarding procedures will begin on November 1st, 2010 and will end in July 2011.
On Tuesday "Metrorex" announced that the subway of Bucharest will have two new stations, (Pajura and Parc Bazilescu) which will be inaugurated in the first semester of 2011.
On November 19th, 2009, the subway of Bucharest celebrated 30 years since the launch of the first section, Semănătoarea - Timpuri Noi. Nowadays, around 650,000 passengers use this means of transportation daily.
Bucharest"s subway grid has a total length of 67 km, and comprises four trunk lines, 49 stations and three depots.
Even though it only accounts for 3.7% of the length of the entire public transportation network of Bucharest, the subway usually handles from 20 to 25% of the total volume of passengers that use the means of public transportation.
