The chairman of the ANSVSA, Marian Zlotea, has decided the launch of nationwide investigations of the quality of fruits and vegetables. The health inspectors of the ANSVSA will check the presence of residual pesticides, nitrites and nitrates, and whether the former meet the maximum allowed levels as set by the legislation in effect.
"Lately, we have received complaints about the low quality of fruit and vegetables on sale on the Romanian market. That is why we have decided to expand our investigations to include fruit and vegetables that enter Romania as a result of trading within the European Community", the chairman of the ANSVSA said. The investigations will check fruit and vegetables produced domestically as well as those that are imported or originating from trading within the European community, as well as their processing, storage and retailing. Samples will be analyzed by the county food safety laboratories.
