EnglishHalfway through 2006 the overall number of broadband connections in Romania reached 731,000 of which 83.3% in the residential segment, 16.3% in the business segment and 0.5% in the administrative / educational segment, according to the Broadband Barometer made by IDC upon Cisco Romania"s request. For the entire year 2006, Cisco estimates a 150% yoy increase of the broadband market. "Fast and cost-effective internet access is the foundation for the development of information society in Romania. Broadband solutions play an essential role in the communications infrastructure and are the best strategy to generate sustainable development and increased productivity," said Bogdan Constantinescu, the CEO of Cisco Romania & Republic of Moldova. The leading broadband service providers in Romania are RDS, UPC and Romtelecom.
