Schengen is about to disappear, we are obstinately trying to enter nothing

Romania has a deputy prime-minister - Costin Borc; he wants Romania to save Schengen

The EU member states have asked the European Commission on Monday to prepare extensive border checks as part of the Schengen Space for a period of up to two years, while the reinstating of temporary border controls may only last for a maximum of six months, Dutch Immigration minister Klaas Dijkhoff recently said.

Six months or two years of border controls means nothing but a suspension of Schengen.

And then what does Germany want to receive Turkey in?

What do our authorities want to enter, as Romania still expresses its desire to join Schengen, and in fact wants to save its future?

Romania has a deputy prime-minister.

He is providential for the Schengen space. The deputy prime-minister is called Costin Borc.

He has found the solution: "If Europeans accepted Romania's accession to the Schengen space, then it would send to Europe the message that the free circulation zone is alive and has a future". Of course, Borc did not explain how would Romania's Schengen accession stop German women from being raped in the Cologne train station.

If Europeans decide to suspend the de facto Schengen space, then the president of the European Commission (EC), Jean-Claude Juncker, will have to explain how is it that we still have the Euro currency, in one of his rare moments of lucidity.

Recently, he said that the existence of the Euro would not have any sense if the Schengen space were to disappear, which is apparently happening, at least on a declarative level.

But for now, the unprecedented wave of asylum seekers, which has forced the member states to take measures when it comes to the national borders, shows no signs of abating, according to Klaas Dijkhoff, the coordinator of the informal reunion of the European ministers of Internal Affairs which was held on Monday in Amsterdam.

Even though the official discourses in Europe go towards the temporary suspension of Schengen, last year the EU signed a deal with Turkey to speed up the liberalization of visas for Turks, in exchange for Turkey taking back the refugees, a deal further strengthened last week by the German chancellor.

Over one million of non-EU individuals have entered its space in the last year, which has caused disagreements between EU member states and radical measures, even taken within the Schengen Space.

On Friday, Austria has proposed suspending Greece from Schengen up until its secures its maritime border with Turkey, pleading along with Germany, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark for the reintroduction of temporary controls in the free circulation area, to stop immigration.
