The Senate Economy & Industries Committee yesterday postponed the debate on Emergency Ordinance of the Government no. 128/2008 regarding the establishment of the National Energy Company. The Senate acted on a request from the Ministry of Economy. Specifically, a fax message signed by Ministry of Economy State Secretary Tudor Serban asked the Committee to halt any debate on the respective bill until the Government would decide whether to keep it or not.
The document, quoted by Agerpres, indicates that the Ministry of Economy reiterated their request to the Government "to prepare a stand on the rejection of the Emergency Ordinance." Social Democrat Senator Serban Mihailescu, acting in his capacity as Secretary to the Economy & Industries Committee, stated that the preparation of an official point of view on the matter needed to include a response from the European Commission, which had been notified regarding the establishment of the National Energy Company.
