Calico - the project of life without death

There are no things on Earth (and beyond) that can't be "seized" by the Silicon Valley elite, regardless of how hard it may be to obtain or how bizarre the ideas of some people may seem at a certain time. Furthermore, it would seem that the harder to reach that goal is, the more the resources thrown at it increase, and the challenge becomes greater. According to the publication The Telegraph, Calico, developed and led by Google and the chairman of Apple, Art Levinson, seems to have been built according to the aforementioned recipe. It has been created to succeed, through the use of biotechnology, in stopping the human aging process. In other words, the bosses of Google and Apple want to buy what was impossible to buy before: eternal life.

Art Levinson, chairman of Apple and Genetech, was not chosen to lead Calico by accident, as he has a Ph. D. in biochemistry and he is a researcher. Over the last few months, issues concerning health and research in the field have become the main concern of the two founding members of Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, both aged 40, The Telegraph writes. The two have recently faced rather serious medical issues, which has determined them to start the Calico project. Aside from the billionaires of Google, Calico also has the backing of several companies and organizations that handle the problems in the health field. The investors also include Peter Thiel, the billionaire co-founder of PayPal and an investor in Facebook. Thiel said: "I am joining the project because I believe that researching the aging process will allow people in the future, to enjoy a longer and healthier life".

According to Time, Larry said: "An extraordinary thing would be to find the cure for cancer, which would add three years to the lifespan of people everywhere. We believe that if we can do this, we can change the world completely". He went on to say: "I have always been disappointed that major companies, that have a huge potential, confine themselves to doing just one thing. We believe in the philosophy that if there are more of us and we have more resources, we can deal with more things and we can do everything better".

Google has announced its new Calico project, on Wednesday, on the Google+ social network. Details concerning the structure of the company have not yet been disclosed. However, according to the sources of "Time" magazine, close to the project, Calico will begin its activity with its small number of employees and will focus more on researching the new technology that will lie at the base of the entire process.
