"Iran looks forward to expanding its investments in Romania and promoting bilateral investments"

I find it opportune to shed light on the enduring relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Romania. As the Ambassador of Iran to Romania in the past 945 days, I wish to share our perspective on key aspects of diplomatic ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Romania, highlighting mutual interests, collaborative opportunities, and our vision for international peace and security.

The historical bonds between Iran and Romania have laid the foundation for our diplomatic journey. Recognizing Romania's independence 141 years ago, Iran was one of the first non-European countries to recognize Romania. Celebrating the 120th anniversary of Iran-Romania diplomatic relations in July 2022, we reaffirmed our commitment to enhancing our relations in diverse spheres.

On this occasion, we reflect upon our shared values and common aspirations. Despite challenges and external impediments, our nations are united by our historical, economic, and cultural ties. These affinities guide our commitment to a partnership that harnesses our collective strengths and values, aiming to transcend differences and elevate our cooperation.

Economic collaboration forms a pivotal dimension of our diplomatic relationship. The trajectory of our economic exchanges has witnessed fluctuations, yet recent developments are promising. In 2021, the direct economic exchanges between Iran and Romania reached nearly 500 million dollars. Encouragingly, this trend continued into 2022 with some reduction, with trade volumes reaching approximately 322 million dollars. In the pursuit of mutual growth, we recognize the significance of investment ventures. Iran looks forward to expanding its investments in Romania and promoting bilateral investment. Our shared commitment is fortified by a bilateral investment treaty in place since 2004, laying the groundwork for collaborative projects that benefit both nations.

As a country, that has been the victim of war, threat, intervention and unilateralism, including by economic terrorism against Iranian nation, the principle position of the Islamic Republic of Iran is respect for the Charter of the United Nations and international law, including non-use of force or threat to force, territorial integrity and sovereign equality. Iran denounces war and unilateral sanctions and its absolute preference is for dialogue and diplomacy in dispute settlement between states. Iran is also ready to contribute to peaceful settlement of the crisis, as appropriate, aiming at an early termination of the military activities as well as any arrangement that could alleviate the humanitarian grieve.

In conclusion, I seize the occasion of Romania Diplomacy Day to reiterate our unwavering commitment to nurturing diplomatic relations based on respect, cooperation, and mutual advancement in accordance with international law. Iran's vision aligns with the principles of dialogue, peace, and collaborative prosperity. As we honor this day, we anticipate a future marked by strengthened bonds, shared achievements, and a world united in its pursuit of harmony."
