Last week, Transgaz officially inaugurated the gas pipeline that connects the towns of Gheorgheni and Topliţa, in which the company invested approximately USD 1 million out of its own funds.

The pipeline has 43 km in length and its construction took 9 months. In the next stage of the project, natural gas provider Harghita Gaz has the task of constructing the distribution grid and providing gas to the residents of the two towns.

The first steps for the creation of the gas pipeline in the northern area of the Harghita county began in 1992, but the first project was abandoned, as the route which was chosen initially was considered inadequate, and on the other hand due to lack of funds, so a new project was drawn up and work on the various sections began in 2001.

The pipeline features three segments. The first segment to be commissioned was the one between Băţani and Miercurea Ciuc, followed by the Miercurea Ciuc - Gheorgheni and Gheorgheni-Topliţa segments.
