One of the most well-known players on the road and highway construction segment, Dorinel Umbrărescu, recently decided to merge the companies he owns that operate in this sector.
His best known business, Spedition UMB, will absorb seven companies, controlled by the businessman and his wife: Tehnostrade SRL, Com - Axa SRL, Drumuri SRL, Auto Rom SRL, A&R SRL, Sped UMB and Tehno-Stone SRL.
The official reason behind the merger was to increase the efficiency of the company"s operations and to ensure cost cutting: "Spedition UMB, the absorbing company, is operating on a competitive market that is continually expanding, dealing mainly in road and highway construction and maintenance, whereas the design business is done by the other companies which will be absorbed", the merger plan states. The new "Spedition UMB" will have assets worth more than 1 billion lei, and the other seven companies will be stricken off.
