There is some progress in all this circus. We"re not going back to 1991, as some were saying when they saw Stolojan being nominated prime minister, but to 1996... when we see that the prime minister is Mayor Boc. Basescu had a three-year fight with Tariceanu in order to put Stolojan as prime minister, but Stolojan gave up after five days... Four years ago, he put up a more of a fight...
From the big pool of the Liberal Democrat Party, Basescu had no other solution than Emil Boc... the mayor of Cluj... the re-elected mayor of Cluj. Two weeks ago, the president was assuring us that he had several names in mind for the office of prime minister, not just Theodor Stolojan. Yesterday, not even Stolojan was a solution anymore...
In just five days, Traian Basescu managed to ruin everything he had built with much scandal in ten years. Since 1998, when he toppled Ciorbea, who was another mayor sent to Victoria Palace, Traian Basescu has been the archenemy of PSD. That is how he won the office of mayor of Bucharest twice. When he had every reason to remain mayor, and that includes the majority in the Bucharest City Council, he decided to run for president. Stolojan had just quit... Because of PSD, as Basescu explained at that time...
Basescu won the Presidency fighting the same "corrupt" PSD. Now he is an ally of PSD, after having chased Tariceanu across the country for three years in order to vacate the seat for Stolojan. And when he finally did, Stolojan left... The hardest economic year since 2000 is in front of us. The crisis is in full swing.
The president used to repeat that whatever nomination he would make for prime minister, he would definitely consider the economic context. But, from all his solutions, he made a hasty decision and picked Emil Boc, saying there was none like Stolojan in the whole of PDL... In other words, he offended all of his party colleagues.
Boc is another story. Someone once said that Emil Boc"s main quality is to be able to say in many words what Basescu dictates to him in few words. That would mean that, for a change, we do not have a prime minister in Victoria Palace, but a spokesman.
For all this political circus, Boc seemed the logical solution for a prime minister. But, to make things perfect, Basescu should have been the all-in-one minister of Finance, Justice, Interior and Transportation. PDL has no other like Emil Boc anyway.
The circus must go on... At any cost...
But will there be any bread left after all this circus?
