CNADNR should invest EUR 22 million in the "Road of Shame" in Braşov

This week, the Government passed a bill by which CR 104 Sercaia - Hoghiz, known as the "Road of Shame", was classified from country road as national road, after the county authorities took the necessary steps for this purpose.

The Braşov County Council requested that the highway, which has been in an advanced state of degradation for many years, to be taken over by the Company of Roads, so the modernization works of the road to be financed by the Government. According to the Government Resolution adopted this Wednesday, the road was taken over and contracted out to the Department of Infrastructure, Foreign Investments, Public-Private Partnership and Promotion of Exports, passed to the public domain of the State, as well as classified in the functional category of the national interest roads, "in order to be performed by the Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads- S.A., of the activities of national interest in managing the national roads".

Nobody knows when the effective repairs are going to begin, so long-expected by the people living in Braşov who are forced to drive on this road full of huge pits and bumps. The Braşov County Council Vice-President, Mihai Popa, argued that the auction for setting out the company to draw a new feasibility study and technical project might be started this year, so that the auction for starting the rehabilitation works to take place at the beginning of next year. "There is a technical documentation for the rehabilitation of this road, but it was drawn up many years ago, so the values are no longer topical. According to the estimate of that period, the cost of the rehabilitation works was estimated at EUR 22 million. If the documentation is ready this year, I estimate that the works could start next summer", stated Mihai Popa.

• Few pieces repaired last year's fall

The County Council succeeded last year to rehabilitate with funds from the Ministry of Development, through the program called "Modernization of Romanian State", a part of the sectors of this road in the area of the localities. So, asphalt concrete was poured during the last year' fall in the area of Şercaia locality, Comana and partially in Parău, and the repairs in Parău area, Venetia de Jos, being scheduled to be done from the funds promised by the ministry, the ministry allocating for the performed works 7 million lei. "The Parău City Hall will perform repairs to this road till signing the commissioning report to CNADNR of the CR 104", stated the Braşov county council vice-president, Mihai Pascu.
