EnglishBank Hapoalim Ltd., one of the leading banking groups in Israel, has announced they are having advanced talks to buy at least 75% in Russia"s SDM Bank for 142 million USD. The bank"s Board has approved the terms of the deal, but approval is also necessary from the Central Bank of Israel and other regulators. SDM Bank, controlled by president and majority shareholder Anatoli Landsman reported assets of 632 million USD at the end of 2007. The bank has seven regional divisions and 22 brances in Russia. Bank Hapoalim is the largest banking group in Israel in terms of assets. Bank Hapoalim and market no. 2 Bank Leumi control 59.2% of the overall banking assets in Israel.
