Carrefour Group has paid 55 million EUR for Artima, a supermarket chain in the western part of Romania. The deal is pending clearance from the competition watchdog. Artima holds 21 supermarkets measuring a total of 21,000 sq.m. of sales surface. Last year"s results included 75 million EUR in sales, VAT not included, whereas projections for this year point to some 95 million EUR in turnover, VAT not included. Ten months after last year"s consolidation Carrefour Romania reported sales of 451 million EUR, VAT not included. Nine months through 2007, sales advanced over 30%. Carrefour Romania operates 10 hypermarkets.
