EnglishThe law endorsing the Government"s emergency ordinance on the budget rectification is constitutional, the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) ruled yesterday. The Court denied the unconstitutionality motion filed by the National Liberal Party (PNL) against the law endorsing Emergency Ordinance of the Government no. 34/2009 regarding the budget rectification and the regulation of some fiscal measures adopted by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate during a common session on 28 April.
Two weeks ago, when the Liberals notified the Constitutional Court regarding the normative act in question, Eugen Nicolaescu MP (PNL) remarked that the lump sum tax would stimulate tax fraud, downsize the business of small- and medium-sized enterprises and boost unemployment. Nicolaescu further said that the motion filed in the Constitutional Court was a first step in the Liberals" effort to prevent the application of the lump sum tax and the other provisions of the budget rectification.
