Dassault Systemes SA has agreed to buy the sales and customer support unit of the U.S.-based International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) for 600 million USD in cash. This would be the most substantial acquisition in the history of Dassault Systemes.

IBM, the world"s leading provider of IT services, and Dassault Systemes, a leading French-based developer of advanced software used to design cars and aircraft, intend to finalize the transaction by the second quarter of 2010.

The acquisition will help Dassault Systemes to expand on the market for complex software employed in the design of industrial products. Dassault Systemes derives nearly 50 per cent of its turnover from contracts with leading carmakers and aircraft makers, such as Toyota Motor Corp. and Boeing Co.
