Delphi Diesel Systems Romania SRL Starts Hiring

Delphi Diesel Systems Romania SRL - Iasi has informed the Iasi County Employment Agency of their plans to hire 42 people, including mechanical technicians, mechanical engineers, production supervisors and project managers. The announcement is intended to confirm the investor"s intent to commission the first modules of the factory currently being built in Miroslava by the end of the year.

The investment project was presented by Delphi officials in mid-2007. A year later, Delphi won the tender for the concession of a 16 hectare plot in Miroslava, Iasi County by bidding annual royalties of 80,000 EUR for 49 years. The overall value of the investment in the new factory could reach 300 million EUR.

Upon launching the project, Delphi representatives estimated that the first production capacities in Miroslava could be commissioned by the end of 2009, creating some 300 jobs in the first 18 months of operations. The overall number of employees would increase gradually to 1,800 persons, most of whom locals. Additionally, the company announced plans to sponsor two high school classes of mechanical students.

Delphi"s presence in Iasi County could attract other industrial investors to the area, especially some of Delphi"s suppliers. Moreover, immediate benefits for the community include the annual royalty, taxes for buildings and taxes for the income of the 1,800 employees, the majority of whom will be local.

"We welcome the project as I am sure it will attract other industrial investments in the area. They will build offices and other factories to supply the main core unit. Eventually, some 2,500 people from Iasi County will be working for Delphi," said Miroslava Mayor Dan Nita. Miroslava has already collected 1.1 million RON from Delphi for issuing the permit for a building that is 70-80% completed by now. The Delphi investment is the largest in Miroslava and one of the most important in Iasi County.

The Delphi factory will produce injection components for diesel engines and especially pumps and injectors for Common Rail injection systems for global customers. Delphi has secured several customers and new projects across the world lately, especially for control systems for EURO5-compatible diesel engines. The factory in Iasi county is designed to supply car factories in Central and Eastern Europe.

Delphi is a key player on the global market for diesel engines and will use the new factory to consolidate their market leadership by offering a new and efficient production base conveniently located to the customers" factories. Delphi Group manages 14 factories dedicated to command and control systems for diesel engines in Brazil, Korea, India, Turkey, Mexico, France, Spain, Great Britain and, recently, Romania.

Delphi produces more than 2 million diesel systems per year, being the global leader in this business. Other factories also produce tractors or medium-sized vehicles. Four factories are dedicated to electronic systems. Delphi operates a total of 162 factories supply the major car and truck producers. In Romania, the company already has two factories, in Ineu and Sannicolau Mare. The future factory in Iasi will supply customers in Europe and Asia - Pacific. The management is confident that Iasi is a strategic location for business development on the eastern border of the European Union and beyond.
