Delphi has announced that the construction of their new factory in Iasi is scheduled to start in November, whereas production processes could start next summer, with full capacity to be reached in 2009. The US-based Delphi has selected Iasi as the location for a factory to produce Diesel engine injection systems and some electrical systems for Renault Twingo 2, which is produced in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, two hours from the future Delphi - Iasi factory.
Delphi already owns two other production centers in Romania, in Ineu and Sannicolau Mare. The facility in Iasi will measure 40,000 square meters and is slated to receive investments of 100 million EUR by 2012. Approximately 1,000 highly qualified employees will be needed. Delphi has some 162 factories worldwide employing over 170,000 people. Last year"s sales amounted to 26.4 billion USD.
