Life insurance accounts for some 25% of the overall insurance market in Romania, compared to approximately 60% in Europe, according to Cornelia Coman, Deputy General Manager of ING Asigurari de Viata Romania quoted by Rompres. "Life insurance account for 0.4% of the GDP," she said. The life insurance market is likely to reach some 3 billion EUR by 2010, whereas the overall insurance market will be three times as large. "This is still an emergent market and we believe that it will continue to develop in the next few years," Coman added.
