Oil company Petrom has received a 100,000 RON fine from the Galati County Environment Agency after some 2,000 liters of oil products spilt and contaminated approximately 500 square meters.

"Our estimates indicate that 1,500 to 2,000 liters of oil products spilt from a Petrom reservoir and flooded the protection area that is purposely built around reservoirs in order to contain the damage to 400-500 square meters," Galati County Environment Agency Chief Commissioner Gabriel Panaitescu told NewsIn.

The accident took place near the village of Independenta, Galati County. The Environment Agency fined Petrom 100,000 RON and ordered immediate decontamination.
