Romanian-Norwegian trade exchanges have recorded notable dynamics in the past five years, reaching a peak last year, according to a press release of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC). On November 30th 2006, the bilateral flow of goods reached 336,9 million euros, increasing by 70% against the same period of 2005. Exports towards Norway amounted to 238,7 million euro, increasing by approximately 100%, while imports reached 98,3 million euro, 24% more than in the previous year.
The main Romanian export products are maritime ships and ship components. Norwegian investments in our country reached 15,8 million euro, as 195 Romanian-Norwegian companies were founded.
According to the MEC press release, Iuliu Winkler, the Romanian Delegate Minister for Commerce, is currently on an official visit to Norway. The official will take part in the conference "Romania - member of the European Union. Economic development and opportunities in Romania", organized by the Norwegian applied social science research foundation FAFO.
The Minister"s schedule also includes meetings with Norwegian Trade Council representatives and main Norwegian investors. In parallel, discussions will take place between MEC officials and the Royal Ministry of Petroleum and Energy of Norway related to the agreement regarding cooperation in the field of energy.
