SkyEurope and MyAir, two low-cost airlines that recently formed an alliance, estimate that they will pass the milestone of 1 million passengers moved in Romania within two years, according to MyAir Romania CEO Antonio Iervolino. "The recently concluded partnership between SkyEurope and MyAir targets a very important segment in Romania. We are planning to grow on the Romanian market and introduce new routes. We are also considering setting up a local company by the year-and. The company would be co-owned by MyAir Italy and MyAir Romania," said Iervolino. According to the management of the two companies, the ongoing financial crisis played an important part in the decision to enter this partnership, considering that the two companies need to cut costs in order to survive the crisis. SkyEurope CEO Jason Bitter told NewsIn that the partnership would lead to a 25% cost cut. Also, MyAir and SkyEurope emphasized that passengers would enjoy a greater variety of flights and destinations. Another advantage would be that the two companies plan to buy their fuel together and thus obtain more volume discounts. SkyEurope operates 14 flights per week from Bucharest to Vienna, while MyAir operates 40 flights per week to Milan, Venice, Bologna, Rome, Napoli, Catania, Bari and Paris. New destinations will be introduced in March.
