The privatization of the Craiova-based carmaker Daewoo Romania will be regulated by a special law, according to an announcement made by Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu. He had previously met with Senate Speaker Nicolae Vacaroiu, National Bank Vice Governor Florin Georgescu and Finance Secretary of State Sebastian Vladescu to clarify a number of aspects pertaining to the draft law. Tariceanu stressed that he did not want the Daewoo privatization to turn into a real estate deal: "What we don"t want to do is turn Daewoo Craiova into a real estate deal. The factory needs to be privatized and to resume operations as soon as possible," he said. In his opinion, the Daewoo Romania privatization is going to be a milestone for the Romanian economy because the factory has the potential to create numerous jobs and make a significant contribution to national trade and budget. "If this privatization deal is a success, Romania becomes the leading carmaker in Central and Eastern Europe" he said.
