The authorities are preparing a new round of auctions for the exploitation of a number of 25 on-shore and 8 off-shore oil perimeters, said Gheorghe Duţu, the president of the National Mineral Resources Regulatory Agency (ANRM).
He said: "We want these resources to be explored under optimal conditions and within the economic parameters that we are evolving in".
Predictability is the main challenge of the sector, according to Mr. Duţu, who mentioned that fiscal predictability is one of the issues that needs to be resolved as soon as possible in the area of mineral resources. He said that without predictability it is impossible to create the balance for the exploration of new mineral resources.
Gheorghe Duţu said that many of the hydrocarbon resources are close to exhaustion and that in about 4-5 years, we could become independent, in terms of natural gas, which would create the allow for the exporting of natural gas.
