Former general manager of the Romanian National Railway Company, Mihai Necolaiciuc, was arrested Wednesday in the US, in West Palm Beach, according to "Palm Beach Post", as quoted by Agerpress.

Mihai Necolaiciuc was being pursued for embezzling millions of dollars from the Romanian Railway Company (CFR), and the American Immigration Department arrested him for violating immigration law.

Nicole Navas, spokesperson of Florida"s immigration services said the only information she could confirm was that Necolaiciuc was arrested on charges of violating U.S. immigration laws.

The former CFR manager was living in a condominium in West Palm Beach and his arrest was confirmed by Romanian authorities.

The head of Criminal Investigation, quaestor Bujor Florescu, said that the Bucharest office of Interpol asked the Court of Bucharest"s District 1 (the one that issued the arrest warrant for Mihai Necolaiciuc), to issue an extradition request, to allow for the urgent extradition of the former CFR manager.

Mihai Necolaiciuc was summoned to appear in court in February 2009, by the prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Department (DNA), on two counts of abuse of office against public interest, by which he caused approximately 7,200,000 lei in damages to the Romanian Railway Company.
