Wood & Company, the largest broker in the Czech Republic, has become a member of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE), being the first foreign company to do so. "BSE has shown that it has become a truly European bourse, that any authorized broker in the EU can trade in Bucharest," said BSE Director Stere Farmache.
In his opinion, BSE thus becomes more visible and, if the newly added member brings other investors along, the overall value of transactions will increase. "We are also having talks with other foreign companies to invite them to become members of BSE, but that"s all for the moment," he said.
Wood & Company is the largest independent investment bank in Central and Eastern Europe and has joined BSE because they want to ensure their customers" access to an expanding market, according to Wood Asset Manager Andrea Ferancova.
Wood & Company is a member of the Stock Exchanges of Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Ljubljana, Vienna and of the Deutsche Borse. Established in 1991, the firm has been focusing on securities trading and consultancy. Last year"s results include a 28.5% share of the Prague market and 6.6% of the regional market. Transactions concluded in 2006 totaled 24 billion USD.
