EnglishA consortium led by GDF Suez SA - France has obtained a 3.25 billion USD syndicated loan for the energy and desalinization project "Ras Laffan C" in Qatar. The consortium also includes Mitsui & Co., Shikoku Electric Power Co. and Chubu Electric Power Co., all from Japan. The loan is syndicated by 21 banks including Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Export Development Canada and Islamic Development Bank. The financing includes 250 million USD from Islamic investors. The "Ras Laffan C" project has a designed energy capacity of 2,730 megawatts and 286,000 cubic meters of water per day. It is scheduled to become operational in April 2011.
