Primary energy resources dropped 18.4% in the first ten months of 2009, and electricity resources dropped 12.5% YOY over the same period. Domestic output amounted to 17,159 thousand TOE (Ton of oil equivalent), down 6.9% YOY, according to statistics from the National Statistics Institute (INS). Imports stood at 8202.2 thousands TOE, in the aforementioned period, down 35.1% over October 2008.
The main resources of primary energy for the period reviewed stood at 25,361.21 thousand TOE, down 5,708.3 thousand TOE. The drop in the volume of electricity was caused by a 5,946.2 million kWh drop in manufacturing.
Thermal power plants output 21,334.2 million KWh, down 5,117 million KWh (-19.3%). The output of hydroelectric power plants stood at 12,327.7 million KWh down 1,390 million kWh (-10.1%), and output from nuclear power plants stood at 8,679.4 million KWh up, or an increase of 560.8 million kWh (+6.9%).
The end-user consumption of electricity over the period stood at 35,993.8 million KWh, 9.3% below last year"s similar period. Public lighting increased 7%, and household consumption increased 10%.
Exports of electricity dropped 1468.8 million KWh, or 37.4%.
