"The only chance for stock exchanges in CEE is to open themselves to the regions where the big money comes from"

The only chance of exchanges in CEE is to follow the Viennese model and to turn towards "the regions where big money comes from", that being the US, Great Britain, and Western Europe, says Cristoph Boschan, CEO of the Vienna Stock Exchange. He gave the Vienna Stock Exchange as an example, where 85% of trades come from abroad, especially the US. He also claims that the stock exchanges need to facilitate the access of local investors to the international financial markets.

"We are working on a program we call ADH (Alliance Data Hub), through which we gather and process the data recorded on ten stock exchanges and we are sending it to the US, Great Britain and Western Europe. As for domestic investors, we act as an intermediary to facilitate the access of national investors to the global financial markets", Cristoph Boschan further said.

The CEO of the Vienna Stock Exchange drew attention to the fact that, in managing supply and demand, the state is an important player, generating investment opportunities. "Speaking of supply and demand, obviously, the state is taken into account, because it has to provide investment opportunities for companies, it has to provide markets and develop a national investment base," Boschan said. According to him, Romania must continue to work on generating investment opportunities, investor financial education and modernizing the market infrastructure.

"If you strive and continue to work on the three decisive factors, including generating investment opportunities, investor financial education and the constant modernization of market infrastructure, then I think you will be on the right track," Cristoph Boschan concluded.
