The Romanian Army has run out of combat ammunition, following the military support given to Ukraine, according to the press release issued by the Presidential Administration following yesterday's meeting of the Supreme Council of Defense of the Country (CSAT), convened by President Klaus Iohannis.
In the cited document it is stated: "Council members also addressed the Romanian Army Endowment Plan 2025-2034, a reference document for armaments planning, through which the correlation between the operational needs of military technique and equipment for equipping the force structure is made and the financial resources expected to be allocated for the endowment, and discussions on this subject will be continued. The major change in the regional security situation generated by the aggressive posture of the Russian Federation determined the reanalysis, reprioritization and reconfiguration of the endowment programs for equipping and developing the military capabilities necessary to counter the new threats, including by increasing, within them, the acquisition of the quantities of ammunition necessary for also fight for the gradual establishment of stocks".
From this perspective, in order to protect essential security interests and ensure security of supply, CSAT members determined that it is necessary to have industrial capabilities that can ensure both the production of modern military equipment to equip the peacetime force structure and maintain it in operational condition of the purchased equipment, as well as the manufacture and development of new equipment to contribute to the multiplication of military capabilities in crisis or war situations. According to the press release issued by the Presidential Administration, the increase in budget allocations for Defense will generate a direct effect on the profile industry in Romania, which will have the opportunity to initiate a process of transformation, re-technology and adaptation by attracting new high-performance technologies and know-how -how, through collaboration with internationally established companies in the field.
In addition to the endowment of the Romanian Army, CSAT members also discussed recent developments regarding Russia's aggression against Ukraine, especially the latest escalations of the conflict through new flagrant violations of law by the Russian Federation (ed. - for example, the illegal entry of Shahed drones into the airspace of Romania, Poland and Latvia). CSAT analyzed the impact of these actions on regional security in the Black Sea, with significant implications at the European and Euro-Atlantic level, and highlighted the need to take additional measures to deter and combat security threats, to be implemented at the national level, with the support of NATO .
