The Ministry of Economy and the National Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE) will join hands to render the regulated energy market more flexible and to generate healthy price fluctuations, Economy Minister Varujan Vosganian told "Bursa." "OPCOM is rather rigid at the moment; traders cannot adjust prices to demand and offer," he said, adding that the intention was to make the energy market more dynamic, possibly by using other trading platforms such as the Commodities Exchange.

According to Vosganian, the European Commission is very interested in the consolidation of the Romanian energy market and is encouraging Romania to turn OPCOM into a regional market for the Balkans. Nevertheless, the software for this kind of enterprise would cost hundreds of millions of euros and would require support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He stressed that the Ministry of Economy was going to focus more on the energy market, but without neglecting other aspects of its activity.
