The Bucharest City Hall yesterday announced that the construction of the Basarab Bridge would be finished in the final quarter of 2010, following an audit performed on the contractor. The overall value for the construction of the Basarab Bridge is 558,822,877 RON, of which 70,982,235 RON was paid in 2007, 80,863,492 RON was paid in 2008 and 73,386,695 RON was paid in the first nine months of 2009.
The Basarab Bridge will ensure roadway and tramway infrastructure connecting Titulescu Boulevard, Orhideelor Avenue, Vasile Milea Boulevard (for tramway) and Grozavesti Avenue (for roadway). According to a press release to BURSA, 99 per cent of the drilled-in pillars and 85 per cent of the reinforced concrete floors have been finished. The remaining work consists of 30 out of 147 pillars for viaducts and 66 out of 147 bridge segments. The arched metallic bridge over the Dambovita River is 70 per cent completed.
The central pillars of the HOBANAT Bridge are fully completed and are now the tallest construction of this type in Bucharest. The main access ramps are being built along the entire length of the bridge.
Referring to the matter of expropriating the necessary land, the Bucharest City Hall announced that all problems had been solved and the entire surface of land required for the construction of the bridge had been secured. The works related to rerouting utility networks are over 95 per cent completed.
