Bucharest: Open-Air Classical Music Concerts

Music enthusiasts in the capital are in for a true treat in the coming days. Eight evenings of open-air classical music concerts are scheduled, starting from Sunday and running until September 24th, at the "George Enescu" Festival Square. According to ARCUB - the Cultural Center of Bucharest Municipality, the performances will be presented by orchestras, choirs, renowned conductors, voices, and musicians from Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as well as performances by renowned artists, including pianist Mădălina Paşol, violinist Alexandru Tomescu, who will share the stage with pianist Sînziana Mircea and cellist Ştefan Cazacu, flutist Matei Ioachimescu, who will perform alongside the PERCUSSIONescu chamber trio, and last but not least, Zoli Toth, as the soloist for the closing concert of the Royal Camerata Orchestra, conducted by Constantin Grigore. The 2023 Festival Square kicks off on Sunday with the strains of classical music, featuring a performance by the "Dinu Lipatti" State Philharmonic Orchestra from Satu Mare, alongside cellist Constantin Borodin, under the baton of conductor Azis Sadikovic, starting at 8:00 PM. The concerts continue on September 18th at 7:30 PM with a chamber recital featuring Rafael Butaru, Mircea Lazăr, Mădălina Fara, and Cristiana Mihart. On the same day, at 8:30 PM, violinist Alexandru Tomescu will perform in the WIND WATER EARTH concert, alongside Sînziana Mircea and Ştefan Cazacu. The scholars of the Royal Margareta of Romania Foundation will present a show on September 19th, starting at 7:00 PM, with the musical program continuing at 8:00 PM with a piano recital by artist Mădălina Paşol. The program includes works by Frederic Chopin, Serghei Rachmaninov, and Franz Liszt. A true "rockstar" of classical music, known internationally for his creative interpretation and his ability to convey emotion and interact with the audience, flutist Matei Ioachimescu will come to Festival Square with the exceptional chamber group PERCUSSIONescu. The evening of BRD - "From Renaissance Music to Classical and Electronic Music" and the concert by the "Preludiu - Voicu Enăchescu" Chamber Choir are scheduled for September 20th, starting at 7:00 PM. On the same evening, the AEDEA Trio will perform at 8:00 PM, and at 9:00 PM, the evening will continue with a story of the evolution of music, from Bach to contemporary electronic music, presented by Paul Ilea in the concert "Sync The Classics." On September 21st, the audience will enjoy a diverse musical program performed by the artists of the "Serghei Lunchevici" National Philharmonic from the Republic of Moldova, starting at 8:00 PM. Tatiana Costiuc, Marin Gheraş, Sergiu Muşat, Viorica Agafiţa, Eugen Negruţă, and Andrei Iurcu will showcase compositions by famous authors such as Astor Piazzolla, Fantezia Carmen, Frederick Loewe, or George Gershwin. On September 22nd, at 8:00 PM, a unique ensemble in the Romanian music landscape, the Big Band Radio Romania, will perform under the baton of conductor Simona Strungaru, while the penultimate evening at Festival Square on September 23rd, at the same time, is reserved for a concert by artist Miruna Ionescu accompanied by the "Ion Dumitrescu" Philharmonic Orchestra from Râmnicu Vâlcea, conducted by Tiberiu Oprea. On the last evening, Sunday, September 24th, at 8:00 PM, one of the most respected Romanian artists, Zoli Toth, will perform for the closing concert of Festival Square. Known as a promoter of unconventional percussion music in Romania, conceptual artist Zoli Toth promises to create a magical atmosphere alongside the Royal Camerata Orchestra, conducted by Constantin Grigore. Public access to the concerts is free.
