The volume of construction works dropped 15.6% in the first ten months of the year, compared to last year"s similar period. According to a communiqué by the National Statistics Institute (INS), all structural elements of the construction sector dropped during the reviewed period: general repair works (-25.3%), current maintenance and repair works (-20.9%) and new construction works (-12%). Civil engineering constructions have seen a 14.1 drop in the first ten months of the year, non-residential buildings dropped 17.1% and residential buildings dropped 17%.
The National Statistics Institute reports that in October 2009, INS reported that the volume of construction works dropped 4.4% compared to September, both as an unadjusted series as well as a series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality. Compared to October 2008, the volume of construction works decreased both as an unadjusted series as well as an series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality by 25.3%, and 22.4% respectively.
