After nine months of study and consideration on several candidate locations for a new production center in Eastern Europe, the US-based Delphi selected Iasi as the venue of a Diesel engine injection system factory, as announced by Michel Stanciu, Director of Manufacturing, Engineering & Planning at Delphi Diesel Systems.
Construction works will begin in the winter of 2007-2008, as soon as weather allows it. Plans are to start production in 2008 and bring it to full capacity in 2009. The project would measure some 40,000 square meters and cost 100 million EUR by 2012. Some 1,000 jobs will be created.
"We"ve already started recruiting. I"ve had breakfast with our first 15 employees this morning," said Guy Hachey, VP of Delphi Corporation. "I"m amazed with Romania"s economic growth and very happy with the excellent qualification of the people here and the huge potential I see around," he added. Delphi is one of the leading suppliers to the auto industry worldwide. The company was established in 1999 as a separated part of General Motors.
