Austrian-based Egger, a manufacturer of wooden boards, is building a factory in Radauti, Suceava County. The first stage of the project is worth 210 million EUR and will materialize in building the infrastructure necessary for producing PAL panels, according to Sales Manager Reinhard Hatti. He added that the company was planning to invest some 500 million EUR in Radauti, in 2-4 phases, depending on the market. The project is financed from the company"s own funds, as well as from funds borrowed from an Austrian bank consortium.

The project will unfold on 80 hectares. It will become the 16th factory operated by Egger group. The factory will have a production capacity of 600,000 cubic meters of raw PAL per year. Some 80% of the output will be further processed into higher value-added panels. According to Sales Manager Romania & Moldova Emanuel Rucareanu, most of the output will be sold in Romania, and the rest exported to Ukraine, Bulgaria, Turkey, Serbia, Macedonia and Poland. The factory is slated for commissioning in early 2008, with functional tests preceding the inauguration.

Egger operates in Romania since 2002 through a sales office in Bucharest. Last year, the company imported some 80,000 cubic meters of finished products from Austria for a total of 40 million EUR. Egger has secured some 20% of the Romanian PAL market. The group operates in 90 countries and has some 15 factories in Europe.
