The construction of the Moldova Highway is likely to begin in 2009, after procedural activities in 2008. The construction timeframe has been defined until 2013, but it is yet difficult to set a firm completion deadline, according to Transportation Minister Ludovic Orban. One possibility would be to link the Moldova Highway to the Brasov - Bors Highway, but a decision has not been made yet. Depending on the exact route, the highway could measure between 290 km. and 320 km, including a ring road around Iasi.
According to Minister Orban, the tender for the feasibility study will take place by the end of this year, whereas the tender for the construction works is slated for the fall of 2008. The highway will be divided into 4, 5 or 6 sections, which could be operated as concessions by private investors in exchange for financing. The overall cost of the construction would be 1.5 billion EUR, but a more precise figure will only be known from the feasibility study.
