The European Central Bank (ECB) must keep calm and show that it is keeping inflation under control, but perhaps the governments should relax the fiscal policies, says Ewald Nowotny, an executive of the institution.
The ECB official says, quoted by Polish daily Puls Biznesu: "I think that now it is too early to determine the long-term trends. Somebody needs to pay attention to the fact that low inflation is caused by the low price of oil and commodities. In my opinion, we need to be calm and to prove that we are keeping the situation under control. Also, it is too early to speak about the adjustment of the ECB's asset purchase program, because that it still has almost a year to go, until September 2016".
Nowotny also adds that in order to ensure the rise of the economy of the monetary union, additional measures are necessary, including structural reforms and changes in fiscal policy.
