Parliamentary groups of the PSD+PC and PNL yesterday requested that Permanent Office of the Chamber of Deputies create a parliamentary commission which would investigate the current minister of Tourism, Elena Udrea.
Liberal deputy Mihai Voicu said that the investigation commission wants to look into how the Ministry of Tourism spends its funds.
There are voices claiming that the recent scandal with the Ministry of Youth and Sports which caused the resignation of the Minister of Youth and Sports Monica Iacob Ridzi could happen again, this time with the Ministry of Tourism Elena Udrea, again due to oversized spending by the Ministry of Tourism.
55 liberal deputies and 23 deputies of the PSD signed the petition for the creation of the investigation commission.
The minister of Tourism Elena Udrea said that the actions of the social-democrats come as no surprise for her and added that this is all part of the early electoral campaign of the social-democrats.
Udrea said that she has no idea what the two parties would want to have investigated and restated that all ministry records are publicly available.
Elena Udrea said, as quoted by Agerpres: "In the end, of all the accusations made against me - and I"ve answered absolutely all of them - I understandthat the only one that still stands is that we bought curtains worth EUR 75,000. To paraphrase the old joke,
The Minister of Tourism in turn attacked the ministries led by members of the PSD, saying that, if the Ministry of Tourism is under investigation, "it would be a good thing to investigate how the ministries led by members of the PSD spent tens of millions of Euros on advertising campaigns, or how the Liberal government spent billions of Euros".
