After having opened 7 supermarkets and one hypermarket in the second half of last year, SPAR intends to open 20 sites in 2007, including 5 hypermarkets and supermarkets in Bucharest. The overall investment will amount to some 20 million EUR.
The company will open new sites in Hateg, Ramnicu Valcea, Medias, Constanta, Orsova, Arad, Lugoj, Simeria, Turda, Targu Jiu, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Oradea and Bucharest. The opening schedule depends also on how fast necessary documentation is processed.
The first SPAR site to open in 2007 is Hateg, scheduled for March 1st. The supermarket will measure 1300 square meters and carry 5738 items, including 35% of fresh foodstuffs. SPAR was established in Holland in 1932.
"Despar" is an acronym for the Dutch phrase meaning "all shall benefit from united cooperation." The word "Spar" means "Christmas brand," which is also illustrated on the SPAR logo. The company closed 2005 with 27.9 billion EUR in turnover.
