Alpha Bank Romania reported a gross profit of 28,7 million EUR for 2006, down 6% (1,7 million EUR) compare to the previous year, according to a report from Alpha Bank Greece, the holding company of the Romanian bank. The profit drop coincided with a period of investments, given the fact that last year, the bank opened 40 new branches.
The Romanian bank"s assets gained 58% last year, hitting the 2 billion EUR mark and reaching 2,11 billion EUR. Consequently, Alpha Bank ranks seventh on the Romanian market, with a market share of 4,2%. The development plan announced at the beginning of this year involves the expansion of the bank"s branch network to 150 agencies and branches.
