Sibiu-based companies Ambient and Concefa will lay off almost 1,000 people as a result of the economic crisis, according to an announcement by the Sibiu County Employment Agency (AJOFM). "There are two reasons for the job cuts. The first is that our business is usually smaller during winter, so we need to cut costs. The second reason is that our plan to optimize costs has been very much expedited by the international financial crisis," said Ambient"s Marketing & Communication Manager Dana Modrescu.
Ambient"s leading shareholder Ioan Ciolan also referred to optimization and cost cuts: "At any time, the key objective of a company is to keep costs under control. Under the current circumstances, efficient cost control is essential. It bears direct influence on the future of the company."
The company will lay off 248 employees and thus reduce the total headcount by 8%. However, the neighbouring construction company Concefa will lay off 705 people, according to an announcement by owner Horatiu Cercel. He said that bad weather conditions rendered the people redundant until 20. February 2009.
