Auchan to Build 40 Mln EUR Hypermarket in Timisoara

Auchan Romania next year will open its fifth Romanian outlet in the city of Timisoara. The hypermarket will have a retail surface of 12,000 square meters and 450 employees and will be part of Iulius Mall Timisoara. The investment amounts to 40 million EUR.

Until the launching of the new outlet, Auchan will open 2,600 square meter supermarket which will function for about one year, according to a company announcement.

This year, Auchan plans to open four hypermarkets in Romania, followed by another four next year. The outlets will be located in Cluj- Napoca, Constanta, Timisoara, Pitesti, Targu Mures and Bucharest. Auchan entered the Romanian market in November 2006 by opening a hypermarket in Bucharest (the Titan area).

French group Auchan is one of the world"s largest retailers, present in 12 countries: France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Luxemburg, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Marocco, China and Taiwan. Last year, he group reported a turnover of 42.1 billion EUR.
