The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has bought 9.8% in E.ON Gaz Romania and E.ON Moldova for some 43 million EUR. EBRD will indirectly hold 5% in E.ON Gaz Romania (northern region) and E.ON Gaz Moldova (northeastern region). Nandita Pashad, Director of Power & Energy Utilities of EBRD, told a press conference that the bank"s investment was going to support E.ON"s strategy to consolidate operations in Romania. EBRD will thus support the ongoing privatization, liberalization and modernization of the electricity and gas sectors in Romania.
In turn, E.ON Energie AG Vice President Thomas Weber said: "EBRD is very experienced as an investor in Eastern Europe and especially in Romania. We also have a good, sustainable partnership with EBRD in Slovakia and Bulgaria." E.ON Ruhrgas Regional Executive Manager Achim Saul saluted the partnership with EBRD and pointed out that Ruhrgas had improved cooperation with E.ON Moldova enabling customers to benefit from integrated gas and energy supply.
