The amounts invested by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Romania nearly doubled this year, through loans and stakes in various companies. According to EBRD officials, who attended yesterday"s round table of the ministers of the economy, since the beginning of the year, the bank invested EUR 700 million in Romania.
The EBRD granted EUR 100 million to BCR Erste for lending so SME"s, and EUR 430 million for the energy sector. The EBRD also granted two loans to Petrom and one loan to the Turceni Energy Complex.
Petrom will use the EUR 150 million loan to increase its environmental performance and the other EUR 200 million loan for building a gas based power plant. The Turceni complex will use EUR 80 million for the modernization and rehabilitation of some of its units.
The EBRD also invested EUR 20 million in the municipal sector, by supplementing two loans aimed at improving urban transportation between Arad and Braşov.
Also this year, the EBRD invested EUR 70 million in the general industry sector.
