Ericsson has announced intent to open a global support center in Romania, either in Iasi or in Cluj, following a meeting with Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu in February. Ericsson has already inquired as to potential locations in Iasi, focusing mainly on a local factory, Fortus SA, which owns a building of nine levels, 10,000 sq.m. of usable surface, 2,000 sq.m. of courtyard and 10,600 sq.m. of parching places. However, the said assets cannot be sold for the time being as the Ministry of Finance has impounded them because of overdue taxes. Another option would be to build something anew in the Tehnopolis technological park in Iasi.
