International conference "Mass-media in post-communism"

The challenges facing journalism are increasing in this period. The University of Oradea is organizing, on Friday and Saturday, the eighth edition of the international conference "Mass-media in post-communism", which will bring together 57 professors, journalism specialists, mass communication researchers, students and journalists from Romania, Republic of Moldova and Hungary. This year, the general theme of the event will be "Mass-media, under the magnifying glass of researchers and practitioners". The guests who will present papers in plenary and in the five sections are from Bucharest, Timisoara, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Bacău, Pitesti, Galati, Arad and Oradea, the Republic of Moldova and Hungary. The conference will take place in a mixed system - physical and online. "The academic meeting from Oradea has gained a well-deserved reputation thanks to the seven published volumes (Editura Tritonic Bucureşti/Editura Universităţii din Oradea), these containing the works of the participants in the seven previous editions (2016-2022)", say the organizers. The opening and plenary works will take place, tomorrow, at the "Gheorghe Şincai" County Library. The dissertations presented here will start with Prof. Univ. Dr. Raluca Radu, from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences (FJSC), University of Bucharest, on the topic "Romania in Digital News Report, 2017-2023: information consumption, news avoidance and trust in the press" (online). Univ. Prof. Sandu Frunză, from "Babeş-Bolyai" University, Cluj-Napoca, and Corina Şeulean will address the theme "Ethical challenges and existential anguish brought by the new technologies of media communication". And university professor Marian Petcu, Ph.D., from FJSC, University of Bucharest, will give a lecture on "Press, object of scientific research". Also, the general director of the National Press Agency Agerpres, Claudia Nicolae, will give a presentation in plenary under the generic title "Artificial intelligence and journalism. Technology - enemy or ally?". On Saturday, in the "Nicolae Iorga" Amphitheater, there will be a meeting between the participants and the journalism students. The theme of the colloquium is "Journalism - the fruits of the past, the challenges of the present, the stakes of the future". The event is organized by the University of Oradea, through the Faculty of History, International Relations, Political Sciences and Communication Sciences, the Department of Political Sciences and Communication Sciences, together with the University of Bucharest and the State University of Moldova.
