Petrom has launched one of the largest environmental projects in Romania, "Green at the Power of Petrom," which concerns the rehabilitation of 200,000 sq.m. in Straulesti, near Bucharest. The land will subsequently be used for real estate development.
Previously an oil storage facility since 1934, the site needs to be cleansed of oil infiltrations in soil and groundwater. Petrom will commit 10 million EUR to the project. In the first phase, all constructions, oil tanks and pipes will be removed.
In the second phase, oil infiltrations will be cleansed and the soil and groundwater will be rehabilitated over three years. In the third phase, a pollution monitoring system will be implemented.
